This evening I was supposed to go to a birthday dinner, and in fact was supposed to convey some essential components of the dinner including the cake, the candles and a bag of smoked salmon. Then, about half an hour before I was to leave I got a message saying wait. The venue is in Zaman Park, where Imran Khan also lives, and he had just given a speech on Youtube so the residents were expecting to be under siege again, the roads blocked off, and protestors and security converging. So that was that, but luckily motorcycles could still get through certain back alleys, so Hagrid got all fired up at the thought of a birthday cake languishing and insisted he had a plan to deliver it, if not me. I was doubtful, but he was insistent so off he went, like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible, with a friend carrying the cake, candles and bag of smoked salmon.
I was really quite worried, but it all went smoothly. They got to a park near the house using a complicated route through the alleys and handed over the goods to someone from the house. Then a slightly more difficult return as things started tightening, and at one point they had to ride their motorcycle along the lane barriers running along a road, and both returned looking and feeling like ninjas.
